Goblin Slayer: Will the Manga Sales Guarantee a Second Season? There might be a Good News for Fans
Here are some common steps through which we can know if an anime gets a second season
Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy anime set in a world of adventurers and their quests to slay monsters and solve village folk’s problems. The protagonist is a man wearing body armour and a helmet who goes by the name Goblin Slayer. The only quests he will do is goblin slaying, and his hatred towards goblins has stayed strong from the time he witnessed his family getting brutally murdered by him.
The first season of the anime aired in 2018, followed by a movie in early 2020. The studio, White Fox hasn’t made any official announcements regarding the announcement of the second season. But here’s a common trick to find out if an anime has chances of getting renewed.
Source materials, sales and popularity
Yes, those are the three primary factors and they work 95% of the time.
Let’s take a look at the source material first. The anime has been inspired by the light novel of the same name written by Kumo Kagyu, but the manga adaptation had made more sales and is more popular than the novels. Currently, there are 13 light novel volumes of Goblin Slayer available in Japan, and ten manga volumes. A prequel manga was also released.
The light novels are still ongoing, with the latest volume releasing in Japan on October 14, 2020. The first season adapted volumes 1-2 and parts of 4. The entire fifth volume became the movie Goblin’s Crown. Therefore, we have nine volumes left to adapt.
Next comes sales and profit. A major reason why some animes don’t make it beyond a single season is due to low sales. Sequels usually make less than the original. Goblin Slayer sold 4,000 Blu-Ray disks in 2018, but with streaming available in Japan, buying disks will deteriorate. The novels made low sales but the manga topped all of them with the latest volume making more than 100,000 copies. That gives us hope for another season.
