Monday Blues is something that we are well acquainted with. It’s a part of our routine when the weekend turns over into a new week, when Sunday moves towards Monday. But here is Blue Monday – A Monday that is deemed to be saddest and despondent day of the year.
What is Blue Monday?
Blue Monday is the third Monday of the January every year and claimed to be the saddest day of the year. The despondency in the day is a by-product of a combination of variety of dismaying elements. Supposedly, it’s on this day when it finally starts sinking to everyone that holiday season is officially over and it’s back to the work with no play, in combination with the guilt of having already abandoned the New Year’s resolutions that are taken with vigour at every year at the stroke of midnight yet discarded almost immediately the following day, it also arises from the hangover of the vocational trips that were taken during the holiday season, and so much more, and hence, that all leads to the “most depressing day” of the year.
As informed by Ibtimes, a psychologist Cliff Arnall in 2004 had decoded the concept and devised an equation wherein it was explained that this time of the year was the gloomiest time for a British Travel Company which aimed at promoting its winter deals, and even called it a pseudoscience in 2013. However, it didn’t sit well with several mental health experts who challenged the science behind the concept and dismissed it for largely trivializing mental disorder as grave as depression.
How to do away with the Monday Blues of Blue Monday?
However, depressing or not, this day people are often at their lowest, just going on with their day while fighting to get the job done with low spirits, so here are a few tips that might help to elevate your mood a little.
- A nice cup of good old tea or Coffee
- Some self-pampering that is any day the best hack to beat the blues
- Maybe some self-care reading to understand your psyche
- Wearing something colourful to add little extra brightness and colour to your day and surroundings
- And lastly, a good book, movies and/or series just ever disappoints to elevate our moods.
