All Creatures Great and Small has Officially been Renewed for a Second Season

Here’s everything we know about the production amidst the pandemic

PBS’s All Creatures Great and Small was a masterpiece and it won’t be surprising if you binge-watched the whole series. Here’s another spot of exciting news. The show has just been renewed for a second season.

The show has been adapted from James Herriot’s books of the same name and follows his life as a veterinary practitioner. As per Deadline, season two will start filming in the Yorkshire Dales in early 2021, but it’s likely to get impacted due to the restrictions that have been imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. A premiere date hasn’t been revealed either.

The executive producer believes it to be an “odd silver lining”

Executive producer Colin Callender believed this setback to be a bizarre, slightly odd silver lining for them as they were using this time to have the writer Ben Vanstone and his team to work on the second season, so that they will be ready for production by the New Year. They were able to utilise this lockdown period in developing the script and other things.

Majority of the cast will return

A cast list hasn’t been announced, but we can expect all the major members to return. There is just one exception: Dame Diana Rigg, who played Mrs. Pumphrey has sadly passed away at the age of 82 in September. This had been her last role. Callender had spoken to Radio Times that “final decisions” regarding her characters are yet to be made.

Plenty of source material

The real life James Herriot (aka James Alfred Wight) has written numerous books, such as All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and All Things Wise and Wonderful so there’s plenty of source material for future episodes. His children are also excited to see the series continue.
