The story is far from over and fans are in for some good news

Season 2 of Made in Abyss may have been teased during the 2020 film Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul (Gekijoban Made in Abyss: Fukaki Tamashii no Reimei).

But Kinema Citrus, the production studio laid all doubts to rest when they announced on January 2021 through their official Twitter handle that a sequel is currently in production and requested the fans to wait patiently.

The movie released on January 2020, and audiences, as well as the official translator for the anime, Jake Jung, had announced that the end credits ended with the words “To be continued.” Jung additionally mentioned that he is in charge of the English translation for the U.S. theatre release, which was released later in 2020.

But we still don’t know if the sequel that the studio mentioned is going to be another movie or another series. Announcement for the movie was done in a similar fashion, where they said that the story will continue, and fans got a movie when they were expecting another season. A way to determine if the upcoming sequel will be a movie or a season is by analysing the source material.

Dawn of the Deep Soul adapted around 12 chapters of the manga and fit it into a 2-hour movie. However, the next arc is over 20 chapters and it will not serve the story justice if it’s another movie. Even if a movie gets made, it will need to have another sequel. Or, they should make a season.

Kinema Citrus has done the manga justice by adapting all the parts in a way that the story doesn’t feel rushed. They have made it a point to stop the story at the perfect spot before the next arc begins. They will be doing the story perfectly the next time as well.
