The two projects will be airing on Saturday, 30 Jan, 2021
Wendy Williams, the New Jersey-born talk-show icon is currently in her 13th season of interviewing celebrities and handing out her unfiltered opinions on things whether you like it or not during her “Hot Topics” segment is currently the subject of two Lifetime Projects. The first one is titled Wendy Williams: The Movie, which will be a biopic (8 EST/PST) and the second one will be a documentary called Wendy Williams: What a Mess (10 EST/PST).
What it will be about

Williams will be serving as an executive producer on both shows, which tells pretty much the same stories. The 56-year-old star, who started her career in radio, spoke with USA TODAY and said that she chose to have her story told because her life was getting more interesting than she could tell through a book or during Hot Topics. She said she also wanted to share whatever lessons she learnt.
The movie and documentary covers major events that happened in her life, like her miscarriages, cocaine use, rape, and her failed marriage with Kevin Hunter, who was a former producer in her show. The couple of almost 22-years separated in 2019 after reports came that Hunter had a baby with another woman and Williams confirmed it during an interview with The New York Times Magazine.
Differences between the movie and documentary
While the movie and documentary share the same stories, the documentary has Williams doing the narrative and telling things in her signature style – without mincing words. She is not starring in the movie and actress Ciera Payton plays her role.
She spoke about her cocaine addiction in 1987 and how she was able to quit without any difficulties when her career took flight. She also spoke about her verbally abusive ex and on not getting divorced until her son and career were safe.
