A very special movie
During a chat with Pharrell Williams on his podcast OTHERTone, the 24-year-old Spider-Man: Homecoming actress spoke about how she did more than ‘just acting.’ Zendaya said that she was in charge of her own hair and makeup and did it herself while on set. She also brought a lot of her own clothes to wear on the movie. She also added that Malcolm & Marie was the first movie where she allowed herself to ‘trust her instincts’ and she considers the movie to be very special in that regard.
The actress spoke about wanting to be creative and wanted to give it her all as she hadn’t worked a lot in the past year owing to the pandemic. Director Sam Levinson actually suggested that they shoot the film in her house so that they can keep everyone safe and low-key. Shooting at her own place with her director and co-star was a very special event for her.
Zendaya had previously spoken about how grateful she was to the cast and crew of Malcom & Marie, many of whom had worked with her on Euphoria as well, and how they all came together during such trying times. She also spoke about having the movie end up in Netflix as she believes that platform gives filmmakers the freedom to tell varied stories and helps them reach a wider audience as well.
