Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 8 – The series will be bringing major attention to the current events happening in the world

The show’s creators are insistent on keeping up with current events while maintaining its signature comedy element

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one show you can’t get enough of. The award-winning police procedural comedy series is entering its eighth innings and promises to be a bit different than before.

The series was greatly appreciated for its humour and incredible dynamics between the cast members, especially detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). The show has also addressed relevant topics in its episodes without making it feel forced, and without lacking in comedy. Now, we can’t wait for what’s to come in season 8.

Release date

Season 7 premiered on February 6, 2020 on NBC and the finale arrived on April 23, 2020, and consisted of 13 episodes in total. Season 8 was announced in November 2019, but a release date wasn’t given.

From the group’s Twitter page, it looked like filming began in January 2021. Taking all the coronavirus pandemic-imposed restrictions into consideration, we can expect the show to arrive in late 2021.

The topics that will be covered

NBC

The initial four episodes of the show had been written when the killing of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests took place. The episodes were discarded and new ones were written.

The writers wanted the show to address the issues happening in the world now, more than ever. Lead stars Andy Samberg and Terry Crews had also spoken about it and said they will be talking about it. But Samberg said that all they can do is address the topic and it’s up to the people in power to actually make these changes.

Season 7 ended with a city-wide blackout while Amy (Melissa Fumero) went into labour, but later, Amy and Jake’s son is born. While that will be shown briefly, the Black Lives Matter movement and the need to portray the police force “more realistically” takes priority.
