Doctor Who season 13 – Will the Thirteenth Doctor return for a thirteenth season?

Don’t worry Whovians, the story is far from over

Doctor Who had been the BBC’s golden goose since it first wowed fans in 1963, and it’s good news to know that we won’t be bidding farewell to the TARDIS anytime soon.

Fans were excited to see when showrunner Chris Chibnall confirmed that Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor will be returning in season 13. A few behind-the-scenes footages are also available.

During an interview with Radio Times, Chibnall was asked if he was leaving the show, to which he responded that it was “categorically untrue,” and that they were planning the next series after this series. So what sort of time-related adventures will we be getting this season?

Returning cast

Every modern-era Doctor, with the exception of Christopher Eccleston, had stuck around for three season and Jodie Whittaker will be doing the same, and if traditions were to be followed, this would be her final season. But her two companions, Graham (Bradley Walsh) and Ryan (Tosin Cole) have left following the festive special Revolution of the Daleks that had aired on New Year’s Day. But Yaz, played by Mandeep Gill will be returning.

A new cast member this season will be John Bishop, who plays Dan, an ordinary person who gets caught up in the Doctor’s crazy adventures.

Season 13 release date

Now that won’t be for a while. Back in December, the BBC confirmed that the production will take ten months, and that the number of episodes have been cut from eleven to eight due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. Chibnall wrote in his column that they’re still filming, and making a television drama in one fell swoop has become more demanding than before.

If all goes well, we can expect it to arrive in late 2021, but it’s a TARDIS-sized if.
