It’s been almost two years since the third season aired

Season 3 of HBO’s True Detective had something that fans didn’t suspect at all – a kind of happy ending! But was it the happy ending that the franchise itself got or is there more to come?

Since the last season aired, fans have been waiting for announcement of the next season, but none came, and judging by recent events, it doesn’t look so good.

Good news and bad news

True Detective followed an anthology method of storytelling, similar to Fargo. But the creator and showrunner had been Nic Pizzolatto on all three seasons.

So the good news is that there is still a chance of True Detective happening since HBO hasn’t released any statement regarding its cancellation. But the bad news is that it will be moving forward with Pizzolatto because FX has signed a deal with him to make shows for them. Pizzolatto had a deal of around $3 million with HBO for True Detective. His new deal with Fox 21 TV Studios and FX Productions is to create and develop a new drama series called Redeemer, which is another crime drama with a dark and gritty undertone. What’s more surprising is that Matthew McConaughey, star of True Detective season 1 will be the main lead in Redeemer.

Season 4 chances

HBO has been keeping quiet. But that’s not surprising since HBO is very slow and deliberate when it comes to greenlighting series, and not quick and excited like Netflix. Also, True Detective didn’t really follow a pattern when it comes to dishing out new seasons. The wait between seasons 1 and 2 was around one and a half years, and the wait between seasons 2 and 3 was around 3 and a half years, which was also a cause for season 3 to get less ratings.
