The Chi: Curtiss Cook becomes series regular from Season 4 and Tabitha Brown and Jason Weaver becomes the latest additions

Curtiss Cook, who played a recurring role as Douda on Showtime’s The Chi, has been promoted to series regular from season 4. Additionally, season 4 will be introducing new cast members Tabitha Brown (Princess of the Row) and Jason Weaver (Smart Guy, ATL) in recurring roles. The drama series, created by Lena Waithe, is currently in production in Chicago and will release in late 2021.

For those not familiar with the show, The Chi has been created and executive produced by Waithe and executive produced by actor Common, and is a coming-of-age story centered on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who come across each other by coincidence, but become an integral part of each other.

The other executive producers of the show are Aaron Kaplan (A Million Little Things, The Neighbourhood), Rick Fanuyiwa (Dope), Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone from Freedom Road Productions, Rishi Rajani, the president of Hillman Grad, and showrunner Justin Hillian.

The roles

Cook plays Douda, who is a successful southside businessman who hustled a great deal inorder to become mayor of Chicago. He had been part of the series since season 2 in recurring roles and had been part of 16 episodes so far.

Brown will portray Octavia, a successful interior designer who comes across Kiesha (Birgundi Baker). Brown is already a known face on Instagram and has amassed 3 million followers who were inspired by her vegan lifestyle. She has acted in series like Will & Grace and Switched at Birth among other roles.

Weaver, who is from Chicago, will play Rahsaad “Shaad” Marshall, an old friend of Trig (Luke James) and is struggling to rebuild his life. His film and television projects include Boomerang, Black-ish, The Ladykillers, Let’s Stay Together among others.
