Get ready for The Summer I Turned Pretty to arrive on Amazon Prime
Amazon has recently ordered a series adaptation of Jenny Han’s young adult novel The Summer I Turned Pretty, according to a report by Variety. The series will consist of eight episodes.
Han has ready written the pilot episode and will be part of the show as executive producer and co-creator.
Han spoke about her excitement in telling Belly’s story and said that the story had been made over many years. The book is a trilogy like To All The Boys but landed before it, in 2009. Han said that for the longtime fans of her book series, this will have been worth the wait, and for the new fans who had been getting into the Summer series, she hopes they will love the characters and the place that is all very dear to her heart.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is described as a drama that transcends generations, with the main plot being a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, and side plots of ever-evolving relationships between mothers and their children, and how strong female friendships endure the test of time. The main character is Isabel “Belly” Conklin, who is spending her summer at the beach with her friends and family.
It is a coming-of-age story that teaches us lessons about first love, first heartbreak, and makes us long for that one perfect summer.
Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television for Amazon Studios said that they all love seeing Jenny Han’s relatable, rich storytelling in full force in this story.
The first book came out in 2009, with the sequels landing in 2010 and 2011. A release date for the series hasn’t been given yet since it’s still in the writing process. If a goes well, we can expect it to arrive sometime in 2022.
