Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Michelle Trachtenberg calls out Joss Whedon’s inappropriate behaviour

It’s high time to address the director’s questionable behaviour

Michelle Trachtenberg, who had started as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has come out to lend her support to her Buffy co-stars Charisma Carpenter and Sarah Michelle Gellar. She also showed support to Justice League star Ray Fisher who alleged that Whedon, who had stepped in as director for the movie in Zack Snyder’s absence was verbally abusive and mistreated the cast, thereby creating a hostile work environment.

Whedon, who was the creator and showrunner of Buffy, enjoyed a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most feminist men after creating  show with young women in the lead. But it looks like the women were just afraid to speak out against him in their early career.

Trachtenberg’s message was not personal or eloquent as Carpenter’s was, but drew the point home with what she wanted to say, which was to stand in solidarity with Carpenter.

Carpenter spoke about Whedon abusing his power on numerous occasions while working together on the show, and it’s spin-off series Angel. This was all just a source of amusement for the director, but it caused her to anxiety while performing, disempowered her, and caused alienation among her peers.

She also added that she had destructive tendencies due to this and still suffers a chronic physical condition. She spoke about him being mean, playing favourites, and putting actors against each other to win his approval.

Ray Fisher’s claims

Ray Fisher had been speaking about the director for almost two years now, and was the first to call him out publicly for his misdemeanour. Aside from Whedon, Fisher named Warner Bros. executives that he believes has participated in this, or at least ignored any evidence of the alleged abuse.

Warner Bros. said that they were investigating his allegations, but only made a vague statement that actions were taken and didn’t specify anything else.

Back in 2017, his ex-wife Kai Cole called him a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals” so this should be enough evidence against the man.
