The highly anticipated reunion was set for filming in March 2020, but will be taking place this year instead
HBO Chief of content Casey Bloys has confirmed that the highly anticipated reunion of classic sitcom Friends will be happening this spring. That’s right, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Ross and Joey and New York City will be returning. The series ran for ten seasons on NBC, from 1994 to 2994 and was such a cultural phenomenon that ever since it ended, fans have been demanding a reunion.
The excitement was high when it moved to HBO Max when the streamer launched, and soon announcement of a reunion episode to accompany the ten season was announced.
Details of the reunion
The Friends reunion was one among many shows that was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The series that was going to start on March, then May, got delayed indefinitely until the global situation eased up a little. The disheartened fans got a sudden boost when Matthew Perry announced that it will take place in March 2021, and Lisa Kudrow revealed that she had already filmed for it.
Bloys’s timing fits what Perry said earlier and the content that Kudrow, as well as the others could have filmed, will be going alongside what they will deliver as the final product. The wait has been long and frustrating, but the time is good, since HBO Max has movies such as Godzilla Vs. Kong and Zack Snyder’s Justince League, so Friends will be adding onto that momentum.
Worth the wait
Jennifer Aniston had encouraged fans that the special episode will be worth the wait, and that the extra time they’ve got will make it “more exciting and fun.” We can bet that the six stars, as well as HBO to deliver on that promise.
