As soon as news of the renewal was seen, the next question would of course be “When?” Unfortunately, we didn’t get a release date, but let’s take a look at the first season’s production. Filming for season one happened between September and December 2019. But it took 13 months until the series released.

We don’t know if it had anything to do with the global pandemic, but clearly it must have affected the post-production in some way. If all goes well, we will be getting season 2 in Winter 2022.

The controversy that the series faced

The Winx Club was extremely popular back in the day and it still has many loyal fans. Naturally, any live-action adaptation of something that popular will come under scrutiny.

One of the biggest problems the show faced was the casting. Particularly, the character of Musa, whose design was based on Chinese-American actress Lucy Liu. But the character was played by British star Elisha Applebaum.

Then there were other issues such as the character of Flora being dropped in exchange for Eliot Salt’s character Terra Harvey. Salt did however tease that Flora might show up in the second season, but for now, nothing has been confirmed. But none of these so-called controversies were enough to cancel the series.
