Marvel Studios has started meeting writers for the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie
The movie will be directed by Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy director Jon Watts
After Disney was able to acquire movie assets from Fox, they are all set to bring the Fantastic Four as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even without these characters, Marvel was able to reach whole new heights in the last decade, and now they’re ready to crank it up a notch with the X-Men and Fantastic Four.
Ongoing developments
The news of a Fantastic Four movie was casually dropped by Kevin Feige towards the end of their roster of movies and TV shows for 2020 and forwards. He revealed that the movie will be directed by the Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy director Jon Watts. Watts is currently busy with his third Spider-Man movie which is looking for a Decmeber 2021 release, so it’s safe to assume that Fantastic Four is at least two years away.
Addressing rumours
There had been rumours earlier that suggested that Jennifer Lawrence will be playing Sue Storm/ Invisible Girl in the movie, but Deadline reporter Justin Krill quickly debunked the rumour saying that Marvel Studios has just started meeting with writers on the project. They haven’t met anyone as of yet, so a script remains to be written.
Searching for the writer can take months. For example, Marvel Studios hired Stacy Osei-Kuffour to write the script for Blade starring Mahershala Ali, and this process reportedly took six months. We can expect Marvel to take their time in choosing, especially since they’re keen on keeping up their brilliant track record. We can expect them to find someone in the second half of the year, but they really have no reason to hurry as Watts will be comfortable with a 2023 release.
Meanwhile, there is the continuation of WandaVision and the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to look forward to.
