The series tells the story of the street kids who helped Holmes and Dr. Watson with their investigation

Netflix made an official announcement regarding their upcoming series The Irregulars in February 2021, and also released some first look images and a teaser trailer. Further promotional events will be happening in March.

Endeavour director Johnny Kenton is part of the project in some way, and so is short film director Weronika Tofilska. The series has been created by Oscar-niminated writer Tom Bidwell (Watership Down) and tells the story of the street kids who were part of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s canon in helping Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson with their various investigations. The series will be premiering on Netflix on March 26, 2021.

What’s the plot?

Not much is known about the plot except that it will be an original story based on Doyle’s characters. It’s similar to the Enola Holmes book series by Nancy Springer that got a Netflix adaptation and started Millie Bobbie Brown and Henry Cavill.

The synopsis on the site reads that the story is set in Victorian London and follows a gang of troubled delinquent teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner. The crimes soon start getting horrifying and supernatural, and after the emergence of a mysterious dark power, it’s up to the Irregulars to come together to save London, and in a way, the entire world.

The iconic duo of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will be played by Henry-Lloyd Hughes and Royce Pierreson. Inspector Lestrade will be portrayed by Aidan McArdle.

The Irregulars will be played by Thaddea Graham, Darci Shaw, McKell David, Jojo Macari, Olivia Grant, Harrison Osterfield and Clarke Peters.

The series will consist of eight episode with a duration of one hour per episode.
