Deadpool 3 will be the only Rated-R project in development by Marvel

Does that mean Blade will not be R-Rated?

According to Marvel head Kevin Feige, Deadpool 3 is the only R-Rated project that is currently under development. The MCU wrapped up their first big chapter with Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and is all set to introduce some new heroes and epic storylines.

From its debut in 2008 with Iron Man, Marvel had rights to some heroes, but not all. That was because rights for the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool were with Fox. Now that Disney has merged with Fox, they can bring all these beloved characters into this vast universe of heroes.

When it was first announced that Deadpool is now part of Disney, fans feared that Disney would make it PG-13 like the rest of their movies. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case and Disney broke their tradition and will be making their first R-Rated movie with Deadpool 3. This brings hope that the studio will soon make other R-Rated films as well.

But that doesn’t seem likely after Feige’s statement. He said that they target everything they do for adults and kids, other than Deadpool that has already established itself as a genre and rating.

This comes as bad news for longtime fans of heroes such as Blade and Moon Knight as these are really dark characters with gritty storylines. The Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali will of course have all the vampire hunting that the previous R-Rated movies starring Wesley Snipes had.

This could mean that characters such as Wolverine and Ghost Rider will also have to be kept below the R-rating. If Deadpool 3 performs well at the box office, which it surely will, it can convince the studio to start adapting movies in all its seriousness and not worry about sullying the good name of Disney.
