Rose Leslie and Theo James will be starring in HBO’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ series
Rights for the series has been acquired by HBO in 2018
Rose Leslie and Theo James has been roped in to play the lead roles in HBO’s drama series The Time Traveler’s Wife, based on the acclaimed novel by Audrey Niffenegger. The series had been a priority project for HBO ever since its acquisition in 2018 in a highly competitive situation along with a straight-to-series order.
The plot
The series has been adapted by former Dr. Who head writer and Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat and tells the complicated love story of Claire (Leslie) and Henry (James), and their marriage that had a major problem – time travel.
Claire Abshire is a fiery, clever and unstoppable young lady who had a closely guarded secret for most of her life. Ever since she was six, Claire had an imaginary friend: a kind and funny man called Henry, sometimes old, sometimes young, who used to pop up in the woods behind her house and told her stories of the future. Henry’s visits were the only thing she looked forward to, and as she grows older, Claire realises that her friend is very much real and that he’s a time traveler visiting from the future.
Meanwhile Henry DeTamble had a problem – a physical condition that started at the age of eight causing him to time travel. Sometimes when he experiences any form of stress, he loses control of the current moment and falls naked into the past or future. During one of his visits, he comes across Claire and he realises that the curse has given him something good.
Production status
There is still a long wait before we get to see the series in HBO Max. The series is currently in pre-production and will be expected to release sometime in 2022 or 2023.
