Netflix is again Embroiled in Controversy as Taylor Swift Slams the Digital Giant for a ‘Slut Shaming’ Joke on her
The dig on Swift was made in the new hit series Ginny & Georgia
Taylor Swift and her fans have been denouncing the new Netflix series Ginny & Georgia for what they called egregious “slut shaming” of the singer.
In the final episode of the family drama series, single parent Georgia asks her teen daughter Ginny if she had moved on from her boyfriend Marcus in the series. Ginny replies to that by saying, “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

Twitter hate
The makers would’ve never expected the jab at the “Love Story” singer to blow up in their faces like this. After all, a lot of shows and comedians have made this joke about the singer in the past without consequences. But Swift’s fans took to social media to criticize the writers for the sexist joke.
A fan tweeted that they had been enjoying the series until this really inappropriate Taylor Swift jab came from a character that’s supposed to be a feminist, before adding “RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT.”
Another user said that they were going to watch Ginny & Georgia but won’t be anymore. They added that even after the reputation tour doc and the Miss American doc, this is still happening.
A third user called the show ironic for supposedly promoting feminism and yet still made this outdated slutshaming joke.
The hashtag RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT started trending and over 264,000 tweets came up from it.
Swift’s response
Swift herself made a sassy diss at the outdated joke, saying “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants it’s lazy, deeply sexist joke back.” She also tagged Netflix who had made her documentary Miss Americana and said that “this outfit doesn’t look cute on you. Happy Women’s History Month I guess.”
We will now see how Netflix and showrunners react to this.
