Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer become unconventional superheroes in Netflix’s new superhero comedy Thunder Force. Due to the COVID pandemic, the MCU, which is currently on top of the superhero movie food chain is lying a little low and are focusing on their Disney+ shows. This gave other studios and streamers an opportunity to bring out their own superheroes.

Of course, we are still getting a lot from both Marvel and DC this year, even though DC is still dragging behind Marvel after Wonder Woman 1984‘s failure. The only thing that’s got fans excited is the upcoming Justice League with Zack Snyder’s footage.

Thunder Force has McCarthy and Spencer as friends who get superpowers. The new trailer sets up the movie’s premise, showing how Spencer’s experiments lead to McCarthy gaining extreme physical strength, while Spencer herself gets the power of invisibility.

The synopsis reads, “In a world where supervillains are commonplace, two estranged childhood best friends reunite after one devises a treatment that gives them powers to protect their city.” The trailer show McCarthy is her signature comedic form, but with strength enough to pick up and throw a bus added to it. Spencer proves her versatility in handling comedy after starring in dramas like The Help and The Shape of Water.
