Looks like the family barbecue has to be postponed again

It’s disappointing news, but was expected all the same. Universal Pictures has once again delayed the release of the highly anticipated Fast & Furious 9, aka, F9. The movie is now scheduled to release on June 25, 2021, just three days after the 20-year anniversary of the first film.

Delayed by more than a year

Universal Pictures

The movie released its first trailer over a year ago, with John Cena making his entry into the highly successful franchise as Dom’s brother Jacob. Sung Kang will also be returning as the fan favourite Han, who was previously believed to be killed by Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. The movie was originally set to release in May 22, 2020, but got pushed to April 2, 2021, as the pandemic had gained momentum and theatres were getting shut down.

But in October 2020, its release date got pushed back to May 28, 2021. After yet another round of release date shuffling, the latest date was decided.

Interview with Vin Diesel

Universal Pictures

Entertainment Weekly recently had an interview with Vin Diesel about everything Fast & Furious, and discussed the possibility of space action to when we will get to see fan-turned-star Helen Mirren get behind the wheel.

About the movie, Diesel said that when you make a good movie, your first goal is to make something you can be proud of, and in the film business we get to learn that when the film gets released, even without the pandemic, it is rarely in your control. But when it comes to the movie’s quality, there is more time to work in post-production, and more time to get the right shots, making it an added advantage. He also added that it’s going to be a special day when the audience is back in the theatre and celebrating the ninth chapter to this saga that they’re so loyal to.

Let’s hope the movie releases in June without any other hiccups.
