The series will be available exclusively on Crunchyroll
The Rising of the Shield Hero is undoubtedly one of the most popular anime series in recent times, and it belongs to isekai genre, one where the protagonist is placed in a world inspired by massively multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG), but with an added twist. The protagonist Naofumi not only has to battle constantly to protect this new world and ensure the safety of his team, but also had to deal with his own besmirched reputation, which continually went down due to some other characters making up stories about him.
And now, the highly-anticipated second season has received a fall release window. Season one ended with Naofumi having to “renew” his journey as the Shield Hero, and it is expected to pick up from there.
Season two details
We can expect the second season to come out sometime in October, as an official day has not been given. The anime has a new showrunner on board, and with the recent trailer, they’ve given a tiny hint on what to expect from Naofumi, Raphtalia, and their team of role-playing game archetypes who all played a valuable role in giving the anime the popularity it enjoys today. Animation studio Kinema Citrus will be in charge of the second season as well, and the series is going to debut on Crunchyroll.
The anime is adapted from the light novel series that debuted in 2012, and got a manga adaptation in 2014. The anime landed in 2019, and Naofumi was immediately recognised as a unique protagonist who entered the new world ready for action but find himself to be the focus of hatred for the civilians who he also has to protect. He also had to take up the shield, which seemed like a dud at start compared to the other legendary weapons.
Fans got to enjoy Naofumi’s uphill battle and in the final episode of season 1, he was battling another hero named Glass, who came from a different world like he did. We can expect a lot of surprises in the second season as well.
