Betty White, an American actress and comedian who rose to fame for her comedic work on numerous television sitcoms including “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Golden Girls,” and “Hot in Cleveland” among others, has died at age 99.
Her agent and close friend Jeff Witjas has confirmed the news. He said it was not clear whether White took her last breath on Thursday night or Friday. “I never thought she would pass away,” explained Witjas to The Associated Press. “She was my closest friend; she was the most optimistic person I’ve ever met.

She was also a frequent participant on American game shows such as Password, Match Game, Tattletales, To Tell the Truth, The Hollywood Squares, and The $25,000 Pyramid. White became well-known as “the first lady of game shows.” She was also seen in several American programs including The Bold and the Beautiful, Boston Legal
She has received several honors as a result of her exceptional work, including a Grammy Award, numerous Emmy Awards, American Comedy Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards to mention a few. She is also well-known for being an animal rights activist.
