Last night’s episode of Cobra Kai had a lot going on. Most notably, the plot came full circle as we learned more about Mr. Miyagi and Daniel Larusso’s history together before they were enemies in The Karate Kid. But most interestingly, we seemed to put John Kreese and his new dojo in the rear

In the Season 4 finale of Cobra Kai, the stakes were higher than ever. Everyone agreed that losing the All Valley Karate Tournament would result in the shutdown of dojos. As a result, when Miguel quit early from the tournament, it was clear something big was afoot. However, rather than simply quitting the competition, as he had done.

Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence teamed up for portions of the season because of the extreme stakes. They did so in an attempt to finally defeat the Cobra Kai pupils once and for all. Unfortunately, Daniel and Johnny’s dojos had to battle each other in the semi-finals of the tournament, with Miguel Diaz and Eli “Hawk”

The fight was immediately a tense one, with neither of them landing a point before Miguel reinjured his back. Fortunately, it turned out to be a minor strain, but Miguel was still unsure if he would be able to fight. As a result, Johnny went in to give him a pep talk, but that didn’t go over very well.

Johnny’s intention was good, but he made things way too personal. He wanted Miguel to win, and he wanted to keep being his sensei. Johnny, like usual, made everything about his rivalry with Daniel. Miguel reluctantly agreed to return and compete again, although it was clear that he didn’t want to. Then the fight didn’t happen because

In Episode 8, “Party Time,” Terry Silver assaulted Johnny, and after that Johnny returned home and got drunk. So, when Miguel stopped by to discuss prom with him, he found Johnny in bed and assisted him to sleep. However, just as Miguel was going to depart, Johnny called out for him to stay, and through his drunken stupor.

“It’s not like I just followed his Twitter account and got caught up in things.” The audience is listening closely as the newest member of the team, Johnny, explains to his dad, “It started when he talked about how you were feeling sick and needed me to come to get my medication. Then he called me

All at once, that perfect moment and three and a half seasons’ worth of relationship-building were shattered. Although Johnny was intoxicated, his calling Robby’s name prompted Miguel to reconsider why Johnny had been kind to him in the first place. Maybe Johnny simply “practiced” with Miguel so he could reclaim Robby and restore their family. Perhaps.

Perhaps he didn’t care for Miguel after all. Clearly, all of those thoughts sent Miguel on a downward spiral and those emotions manifested at the tournament. So that was why Miguel ran off to Mexico in search of a paternal figure; Johnny refused to be in his intoxicated slumber.Cobra Kai’s four seasons are available to stream now on Netflix.
