Queiroga goes back and says that hydroxychloroquine is ineffective against Covid-19
The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, contradicted a technical note issued by the ministry and said that hydroxychloroquine has no proven effectiveness against Covid-19. The minister's speech comes just a day after a document released by the Ministry defending the use of the drug.
In participation in the program “Sem Censura”, on TV Brasil, Queiroga recalled that hydroxychloroquine was tested at the beginning of the pandemic as a candidate drug for the treatment of Covid-19. At the time, the recommendation was the “compassionate use” of the drug, which proved to be ineffective against the disease.
“These medications, as I have already mentioned, are medications whose scientific use is not yet proven, but this confusion they want to create between vaccine and chloroquine is totally unreasonable”, said Queiroga during his participation in the program.

Last week, the secretary of Science, Technology, Innovation and Strategic Inputs in Health of the Ministry of Health, Hélio Angotti Netto, signed a technical note that argues that vaccines are not effective against Covid-19, while hydroxychloroquine is.
The document signed by Angotti presents a series of explanations to justify the rejection of a protocol that was approved by the National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies in the Unified Health System (Conitec) on the use of so-called early treatment for patients who are not hospitalized.

In a table that compared the actions of hydroxychloroquine and vaccines against Covid-19, the drug, proven ineffective, is placed as tested, safe and recommended, while the use of vaccines is discouraged by Conitec.
After Marcelo Queiroga's signal of retreat, Conitec must issue a new technical note, which will be published in the Official Gazette this Wednesday (26). The new document should point to the ineffectiveness of hydroxychloroquine and the safety of vaccines that are used in Brazil.
