Success! YouTube Shorts reaches 5 trillion views in 18 months
Launched as a direct competitor to TikTok, YouTube Shorts reached 5 trillion views over 18 months. The news was confirmed by the platform’s CEO, Susan Wojcicki, through an official post.
According to YouTube, the numbers are encouraging, as Shorts was exclusive to India for the entirety of 2020 and only reached global audiences during 2021.
The functionality fell in the taste of users, since its format is simple and the short videos are produced by large channels that were already present on YouTube itself.
