In That Girl Lay Lay, created by David A. Arnold, phone avatar Lay Lay is the ideal hype girl and best friend that anyone could ask for from their affirmation app. Sadie (Green) wishes upon a star that Lay Lay was real and could teach her how to stand out at school. When her wish is granted and Lay Lay (High) is magically resurrected, the two friends discover that when they work together, anything is possible.

The show follows Sadie, a student who already has enough on her plate with school, but her life becomes even more complicated when her hype-girl avatar from her phone comes to life.

That Girl Lay Lay is a Netflix top ten hits, with the first season set to premiere on Nickelodeon in late 2021 and on Netflix globally in January 2022. On January 29th, 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.

THAT GIRL LAY LAY SEASON 2 RENEWAL UPDATE

That Girl Lay Lay will come back to Nickelodeon for a second season. Alaya “That Girl Lay Lay” High and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green star in the buddy comedy from maker and series creator David A. Arnold. That Girl Lay Lay chronicles the titular actress’s transformation into an avatar from a personal affirmation app and her best friend Sadie (Green) as they navigate adolescence and discover their true selves.

That Girl Lay Lay delivered double-digit gains on Thursday nights and consistent #1 rankings in the time frame across all television in the K6-11 demo following its fall premiere in 2021. Additionally, the series’ lead actress has been nominated for an NAACP Image Excellence award Achievement by a Youngsters (Series, Special, Television Movie or Limited-Series).

According to a press release, “Season 2 of That Girl Lay Lay will feature additional music and magical abilities as the two best friends embark on even more exciting adventures to fulfil Lay Lay’s desire to experience everything that comes with being a real teenager.” Peyton Perrine III portrays Sadie’s brother, Marky; Tiffany Daniels portrays Sadie’s mother, Trish; and Thomas Hobson portrays Sadie’s father, Bryce.”

THAT GIRL LAY LAY SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE

Season 2 is scheduled to begin production in early 2022 and will premiere on Nickelodeon in the summer. If Netflix retains global and US rights following Nickelodeon, it’s reasonable to assume season 2 will be available by the end of 2022 or early 2023.
