He began his career in the 1980s as a producer for the rap group N.W.A, eventually going solo and branching out into entrepreneurship.

His parents were married in 1964, divorced in 1972, and then remarried in 1968. His mother later remarried and had three children: Jerome and Tyree, both of whom died, and Shameka.

Dre departed Death Row Records in 1996 to form Aftermath Entertainment.
