Officials have identified the cause of death for Daniel Mickelson, an actor and older brother of model Meredith Mickelson.

The 23-year-old actress died of fentanyl and cocaine intoxication on July 4, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, as confirmed by PEOPLE.

The cause of his death was determined to be an accident. Meredith, Daniel’s 22-year-old sister, first revealed the news of his death in an Instagram post on July 5 “My heart is broken, and writing this feels so terrible, and I’m not sure what to say.

I lost my brother, best friend, and the other half of my heart the other day.” “There was no one on this earth I loved more,” she said in the tribute, which included a throwback photo of herself with Daniel.

“I’ll always adore you, Daniel,” model Amelia Hamlin said. Model and actress Kaia Gerber posted a screenshot of herself on FaceTime with Daniel on her Instagram Story, along with a lovely message.

“I recall that day we stayed on the couch for the entire day devising our own secret language, which we continued to use every time we saw each other,” she wrote. “I wish we could return to that location.

I wish we could still communicate in words that irritated everyone else but made us laugh every time.” Gerber went on to say, “I wish I was still FaceTiming you from my bathroom floor because it was the only place I had internet and I didn’t want to miss a call from you.

In an Instagram Story statement, Kaia Gerber also paid respect to her pal Daniel. She added alongside a screenshot of a FaceTime session with Daniel, “I remember the time we sat on the couch and spent the entire day coming up with our own secret language that we continued to speak every time we saw one other.”

“I wish we could go back there,” says the narrator. I wish we could still speak in words that irritated everyone else but made us laugh every time.”
