Matt Duffer stated, in reference to the overall duration of the season being extended (as well as the increased episode runtimes), “A lot of it had to do with the fact that we had characters spread out in three locations, and we had a lot more plot.”
It must be four times as complicated as the plot that we encountered in Season 3… That was our exciting summer of blockbuster movies.”

Is This the Final Season of the Show?
Even though it has reached epic dimensions, “Stranger Things” will not end with its currently airing fourth season. Netflix announced in February 2022, prior to the release of Season 4, that the series would be renewed for a fifth and final season.
Matt and Ross Duffer revealed in the announcement of the show’s renewal that they had plotted out the entirety of the story arc for “Stranger Things” seven years earlier. “At the time, we estimated that the story would continue for between four and five seasons.
It turned out to be too huge to tell in only four parts, but as you will see for yourselves, we are now racing toward the conclusion of our story. Season 4 will serve as a bridge to the series finale, which will take place in Season 5.
Fans of “Stranger Things” should not take this to suggest that the fifth season will be the series’ final installment. In the same press statement, the Duffer Brothers made a passing reference to the possibility of spinoffs in the future.
The Duffer Brothers continued by saying, “There are still a great many more interesting stories to tell within the realm of ‘Stranger Things’; new mysteries, new adventures, and new heroes who are completely unexpected.”
“But first, we hope that you stick with us as we conclude this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her courageous companions, of a broken police chief and a fierce mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternative reality known only as of the Upside Down. ” As always, we are appreciative of the patience and support you have shown us.
