Newcomer Jasmeet K. Reen, working from a screenplay written by Parveez Sheikh, is the writer and director of the upcoming dark comedic drama film Darlings, which will be released in India using the Hindi language.
It is the first production that Alia Bhatt has worked on as a producer, and it was produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Gaurav Verma.

Release
Following the acquisition of the film’s rights by Netflix in February 2022, Red Chillies Entertainment announced that the picture would not be released in theaters and instead will make its debut as an original film produced by Netflix on August 5th, 2022.

Premise
The story is told against the backdrop of a traditional lower-middle-class neighborhood in Mumbai, and it follows the lives of an eccentric mother and daughter duo as they try to find their place in the world while navigating through extraordinary circumstances.
Along the way, they discover courage and love for one another.

In collaboration with Eternal Sunshine Production, Shah Rukh Khan’s home production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, is responsible for the making of the film Darling.
Anil Mehta is the film’s cinematographer, and the National Film Award-winning legendry director and screenplay writer Gulzar is responsible for writing the film’s songs. Vishal Bhardwaj wrote the score for the movie, and Anil Mehta is the film’s legendary composer.
Production
Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew were revealed to have joined the cast of the film in March 2021, when it was announced that the film would be made.
Gauri Khan, Gaurav Verma, and Alia Bhatt would serve as producers for the film, using their respective production banners of Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions.
This is Bhatt’s debut as a film producer with her work on the movie. Later on in that month, it was announced that Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar would be contributing to the film’s score and songs, respectively.
The former would be responsible for the composition of the score, while the latter would be in charge of songwriting. The principal photography began on July 3, 2021, and continued until September 7, 2021, when it was completed.
Netflix India paid somewhere between 75 and 80 crores (US$9.6 million and US$10.3 million) for the film’s distribution rights in February 2022. This was despite the fact that the movie was previously intended for a theatrical release.
