House of the Dragon is an upcoming HBO fantasy drama series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal. It is a prequel to the 2011-2019 television series Game of Thrones and is based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood.
The series, set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, chronicles the beginning and end of House Targaryen; the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen civil war, known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

- Olivia Cooke as Lady Alicent Hightower:
A member of the King’s inner circle and the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower, she was nurtured in the Red Keep. She is regarded as the most beautiful woman in the Seven Kingdoms.

- Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon:
He is the Lord of House Velaryon and the most famous seafarer in Westerosi history, known as the “Sea Snake.”

Lord Corlys’ wife and a dragon rider. She was once a candidate to succeed her grandfather, King Jaehaerys, as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, but she was defeated in favor of her cousin Viserys.

He is the common-born son of the Lord of Blackhaven’s steward and a skilled swordsman from the Dornish Marches.
- Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria:
A dancer of foreign descent who succeeded in becoming Prince Daemon’s most dependable ally.
- Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower:
The Hand of the King, Alicent’s father, is a servant of King Viserys and the realm. He is Prince Daemon’s fiercest political opponent.
What is the Story of House of the Dragon?
House of the Dragon, which was adapted from George R. R. Martin’s Targaryen historical novel Fire & Blood, takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The Dance of the Dragons, a notorious historical occurrence in Westeros, will be the main subject of the series.
Following the passing of their father, Viserys I, siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra engaged in a civil war for control of the crown. Other houses, including the Starks and Lannisters, joined either side of the conflict, which pitted all of Westeros against one another.

The first teaser for House of the Dragon gives us brief glimpses of some of this action, including some classic GOT-style sword fighting, jousting, and dramatic dashing along lengthy hallways.
When Will House of the Dragon Be Released?
House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 21 in the United States and on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the United Kingdom on August 22.
House of the Dragon will premiere on Prime Video just 12 days before another highly anticipated fantasy TV series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, adds an extra layer of fun to the news.

Trailer of House of the Dragon
We’ve had a few teasers giving us a taste of what’s to come for House of the Dragon, but the official teaser trailer gave us our best look at the show yet.
It teases the “ugly game” of what’s to come in the new fantasy series and gives us a few plot hints; you’ll see representatives from Westeros swearing fealty to King Viserys and his named heir, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen… but there are clearly plenty of people who would rather see the world burn than see the realm handed to a woman.
What Period of History Does House of the Dragon Cover?
The events of House of the Dragon occurred between 129 and 131 AC, or roughly 170 years before those of Game of Thrones (between 298 and 305 AC).
The performance could begin as early as 120 AC. This year, also known as the Year of the Red Spring, was significant during Viserys’ reign as King because it saw the passing of Lyonel Strong, the King’s Hand, and Lenor Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s spouse.
These incidents would pave the way for the Dance of the Dragons, making them a suitable place to start. Or it might begin in the final year of the King’s life, around 128 AC, allowing his death at the end of season 1 to start the war.
