Stop what you’re doing because Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first image of Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s hunky beau, Ken, in the upcoming live-action Barbie film. And we can’t take our eyes off it.
With Margot Robbie playing the titular role of Barbie in the Mattel biopic, Gosling will play Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken, alongside Academy Award-winner Emerald Fennell, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Simu Liu (as another Ken doll), and Sex Education’s Emma Mackey.
Gosling is leaning against a pink column of the Barbie Dreamhouse with perfectly platinum hair, chiseled, bronzed abs, and a megawatt smile. His outfit, which consists of a light-wash denim cutoff vest, blue jeans, and “Ken” monogrammed waistband underwear resembling the famous Calvin Klein logo, transforms the star instantly.
Greta Gerwig, the beloved actress, and director who brought us Lady Bird in 2017 and Little Women in 2019, directed the film. Gerwig also co-wrote the screenplay with Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach.
Ryan Gosling and Ken Barbie’s Film Release Date
The story, set to premiere on July 21, 2023, revolves around a doll Barbieland shuns due to perceived flaws. As she embarks on an exciting real-world adventure, she realizes that “perfection” ultimately comes from within.
Filming on the WB and Mattel Films project began earlier this year in London, and production released a photo of the Wolf of Wall Street actress in character in April.
