Former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant Allegedly Channeled $1,1,000,000 in Welfare Payments to Brett Favre!
According to news sites in the state of Mississippi, the charge, which Bryant refutes, is contained in a file made on behalf of defendant Nancy New.
New and her son reportedly managed a nonprofit organization and an education corporation in the state of Mississippi in the past.
After entering guilty pleas to criminal charges in April, Nancy New, 69, and her son Zachary New, 39, consented to testify against others in what the state auditor of Mississippi has dubbed the state’s most significant public corruption case in the past twenty years.
Her court petition is part of a civil complaint that has been brought against Mississippi Community Education Center Inc. by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. This organization was once owned by the New family.
In the lengthy document (which is 29 pages long), her legal team asserts that she was acting under the direction of officials from MDHS when she awarded various contracts and distributed monies.
The document was submitted on Monday, and Mississippi Today, a non-profit digital news organization that has widely covered the welfare fraud issue, was the first to publish it.
She makes a specific reference to Bryant while discussing the sum of money totaling $1.1 million that was provided to Favre “in consideration for Favre appearing at events, keynote speaking, radio and promotional events, and business partner development.”
According to WAPT-TV, a spokeswoman for the former governor has issued a statement in which they categorically refute the allegations.
These accusations that have been made against Governor Bryant are untrue. Every allegation that can be made against these people was unearthed and brought to justice as a direct result of an inquiry that Governor Bryant ordered of the state auditor, according to the statement.
The state auditor has asked that $77 million in welfare monies that were spent improperly be repaid. This amount includes $1.1 million that was paid to a retired NFL quarterback.
Favre has been cleared of any criminal misconduct and has made good on his promise to repay the money.
He has stated that he was unaware that the money he got came from welfare funds, and he has denied the auditor’s charges that he was paid for events that he did not attend. Both of these allegations are based on the fact that he received the money.
Additionally, Favre stated that his organization had donated millions of dollars to underprivileged youngsters in the state of Mississippi, where he resides, and the state of Wisconsin, where he was a great quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.
