Early Years
Jason Steven Plummer was born in Boise, Idaho on 19 December 1974 to Steve and Marilyn Plummer. In Smiley Creek, a 50-person community in the Sawtooth Mountains, he was raised in the family’s lumber mill and storage facility. Two older brothers precede him.

Plummer attended Pierce Park Elementary, Hillside Junior High, and Capital High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and football before graduating in 1993.

College Career
On a football scholarship, Plummer attended Arizona State University. He was selected to the all-conference team as a junior, but he never led the Pac-10 in statistically relevant categories.
As a junior, Plummer threw for 2,222 yards and 17 touchdowns; as a senior, he threw for more than 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns.
His senior year in 1996 was possibly the best in school history. In 1996, he led Arizona State to an undefeated regular season and the Pac-10 championship. Late in the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl, he scored the game-winning touchdown on an 11-yard run.
Plummer controlled the majority of school records at the conclusion of his career, but his 34 games with a rushing or passing touchdown remain an ASU record. Two times he was named Academic All-Conference, and in 2012 he was named ASU’s top player.
