Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is a 2022 historical comedy-drama film directed and produced by Anthony Fabian, based on a screenplay written by Fabian, Carroll Cartwright, Keith Thompson, and Olivia Hetreed.
It is the third film adaptation of Paul Gallico’s 1958 novel Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris. Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert, Lambert Wilson, Alba Baptista, Lucas Bravo, Ellen Thomas, Rose Williams, and Jason Isaacs star in the film.

Focus Features acquired worldwide distribution rights to the film in March 2021 for approximately $15 million. They will distribute it in the United States, while parent company Universal Pictures will distribute it internationally.
It was released theatrically in the United States on July 15, 2022. It was supposed to be released on May 6.

“Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris,” produced in collaboration with the House of Dior, tells the story of a widowed cleaning lady in 1950s London who falls madly in love with a couture Dior gown and decides she must have one of her own.
After working, starving, and gambling to fund her dream, she embarks on an adventure to Paris that will change not only her outlook but also the future of the House of Dior.

When Focus Features announced that Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris would be released, they used the phrase “only in theatres,” which gave the impression that the movie would not be made available on any streaming services for the foreseeable future.

Consider gazing lovingly into the window display of a French patisserie’s colorful confections: chocolatey éclairs, fluffy macarons, gleaming religieuses… Anthony Fabian’s genial and endearing “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” is the closest thing to that mouthwatering sweet-tooth sensation without the calories.
This mid-century-set treat, adapted from Paul Gallico’s 1958 novel (charmingly titled “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris”) by a crowded group of screenwriters that includes Carroll Cartwright, Keith Thompson, and Olivia Hetreed, in addition to Fabian, is a pretty and heartwarming as you can imagine in following a modest housekeeper’s dreamy quest to go to Paris and purchase her very own Christian Dior gown.
It helps that Lesley Manville, a performer of effortless grace and unrelenting strength, plays the titular heroine Ada, a war widow living in London. The latter makes ends meet as a lowly domestic.
Given that both of these movies are set in the 1950s and are centered on couture, it’s impossible not to think about her character from “Phantom Thread” when watching this one. But the friendly Mrs. Harris is a far cry from the steely Cyril, head of the House of Woodcock, with his click-clacking heels and no-nonsense attitude.

Ada, on the other hand, is as kind-hearted as a human being is capable of being. Manville wins over the audience’s sympathy so immediately that you never wonder why a dedicated cleaner of modest means would spend her entire life’s savings on an unnecessary luxury like a beautiful gown.
It’s a fun fairy tale, after all, and who’s to say Mrs. Harris’ dream, which she realizes as soon as she sees a Dior outfit owned by one of her wealthy clients for the first time, isn’t just as legitimate. Are anybody else’s amorous aspirations?
