Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born in Madrid, Spain on May 8, 1975, to Julio Iglesias and Isabel Preysler, a Filipina socialist and magazine editor.

He has two older brothers and sisters, Chábeli and Julio Jr. Enrique and his brothers lived with their mother from infancy until December 1981, when Enrique’s grandfather was abducted.

On July 12, 1995, Iglesias released his self-titled album, Enrique Iglesias. Along with his next two albums, this compilation of soft rock ballads was issued by the Mexican record company Fonovisa.

The record sold half a million copies in its first week, achieving Gold status in Portugal within the first week of its release, and sold more than a million copies in the subsequent three months. This is an exceptional achievement for a non-English-language CD.
