Early Years
Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born in Madrid, Spain on May 8, 1975, to Julio Iglesias and Isabel Preysler, a Filipina socialist and magazine editor.
He has two older brothers and sisters, Chábeli and Julio Jr. Enrique and his brothers lived with their mother from infancy until December 1981, when Enrique’s grandfather was abducted.
Enrique and his brother were transported to Miami to live with their father for their safety. The majority of their upbringing was provided by the nanny, and Enrique dedicated his debut record to her.
Enrique received his education at Gulliver Preparatory School and the University of Miami, where he majored in business. He abandoned his undergraduate studies to seek a career in music.
Enrique borrowed money from his nanny in order to record his demo tape since he didn’t want his renowned father to find out he wanted to become a musician.
He went under the stage name Enrique Martinez and claimed to be a Guatemalan singer. He traveled to Toronto to record his debut studio album.

Career
On July 12, 1995, Iglesias released his self-titled album, Enrique Iglesias. Along with his next two albums, this compilation of soft rock ballads was issued by the Mexican record company Fonovisa.
The record sold half a million copies in its first week, achieving Gold status in Portugal within the first week of its release, and sold more than a million copies in the subsequent three months. This is an exceptional achievement for a non-English-language CD.
Five singles were released from the album, including the number-one hits “Por Amarte,” “No Llores Por M,” and “Trapecista.” Iglesias won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance for this album.
With the release of his second album, Vivir, in 1997, Iglesias’s star continued to increase (To Live). Iglesias was nominated for an American Music Award in the inaugural Favorite Latin Artist category.
Iglesias was defeated by his father. 1998 marked the release of Iglesias’ third studio album, Cosa del Amor (Things of Love). This record helped solidify his position within the Latin music market.
