Initial positions
One year as a graduate assistant at Colorado State University was completed by Lane Kiffin. When Lane Kiffin was coaching the offensive line in 1999, the Rams participated in the Liberty Bowl.

During his time as offensive coordinator at USC, Lane Kiffin contributed to the Trojans’ 23–3 record and 88.5 percent victory percentage. In June 2010, however, the NCAA ruled Reggie Bush ineligible for the entire 2005 season, causing USC to forfeit all of its 2005 victories.
Prior to the defamation claim being settled through mediation in July 2021, a former coach named Todd McNair engaged in litigation for a decade to fight his defamation and reverse the vacancies. The victories remained void, as the NCAA announced two days later.
