Maria Bakalova, who appeared in Borat 2, will play a surprising role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming threequel to Guardians of the Galaxy.
At tonight’s (July 23) Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, where the lucky few in attendance got to see an exclusive trailer, it was confirmed that Bakalova would play Cosmo the Space Dog, who was previously seen in the Collector’s museum in the first movie.
Bakalova was one of the few people in attendance who got to see the trailer. Additionally, it was disclosed that Chukwudi Iwuji, who previously portrayed the role of High Evolutionary in Peacemaker, will be taking on that role in the upcoming film.
The Guardians made their most recent appearance on screen in Thor: Love and Thunder, but fans have had to wait somewhat longer than they had anticipated for their third outing.
Instead of arriving in May 2020 as was initially anticipated, the threequel won’t be released until May 5, 2023.
Earlier in the month, Chris Pratt was effusive in his admiration for the accomplishments that James Gunn had made with the new movie, referring to it as a “genuine masterpiece.”
“It’s amazing in every way. James Gunn just observed an unpolished assembly just a few days ago, “He gave an explanation.
“We Facetimed, and he said that he is extremely pleased with the efforts that have been made by everyone. He claimed that it is the best work that any of us has ever accomplished. He has an overwhelming sense of self-assurance. The script was fantastic in every way.”
Will Poulter will take on the role of Adam Warlock in the threequel, which also sees the return of all of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Daniela Melchior and Nico Santos will also make their debuts in the film in unspecified roles.
Iwuji had already hinted that his character is “very powerful,” which makes perfect sense now that it has been established that he will be playing the role of the High Evolutionary.
“James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the crazy Marvel universe,” he pointed out. “He’s probably one of the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe.”
“Therefore, he is extremely complicated and extremely powerful, and perhaps intriguing as well. I really hope that I can bring that to light.”
The third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
