From 2004 to 2005, Buttigieg served as the conference director for The Cohen Group. After graduating from Oxford, he joined the Chicago office of McKinsey & Company as a consultant. Three years were spent on energy, retail, economic development, and logistics.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Best Buy, and many government agencies like the EPA, Energy Department, Defense Department, and Postal Service were among his clients at McKinsey.
