Since 1998, multiple attempts to bring Morbius to the big screen have failed. These include joining the Blade franchise and getting an Artisan Entertainment solo film. Sony started development on a Morbius movie after announcing a new Spider-Man shared universe, starting with Venom (2018).
Sazama and Sharpless finished the script in November 2017, and Leto and Espinosa began work in June 2018. End-of-year casting started in anticipation of February 2019 filming in London. After June 2019 filming, Los Angeles retakes were slated for February 2020.
Morbius made its international debut on March 10, 2022, at the Plaza Carso in Mexico City after being delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 outbreak. It opened in theatres on April 1, 2022.
Some critics complimented Smith’s performance but panned the narrative, visual effects, and post-credits scenes. Despite a decent opening weekend, the movie flopped at the box office and only generated $163 million globally, a financial disaster.
Morbius release date
Morbius was released in theatres in the United States on April 1, 2022, three months later than initially planned. It arrived in the UK a little earlier, on March 31, 2022.
The film has a history of being delayed. Morbius was supposed to be released on July 31, 2020, in both the UK and the US, but it was one of many films that had to be pushed back several times due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since then, the film has been postponed five (!) times, with previous release dates including March and October 2021. This means the film was released more than two years after the first trailer in January 2020.
Before the shoot moved to Atlanta, where it was finished in May 2019, his co-star Matt Smith was also seen on the set. Interestingly, Morbius reshoots were still going on in January 2021.
Morbius has moved into 2022, which means it is now covered by a significant agreement Sony Pictures Entertainment and Netflix inked in April 2021. This agreement handed Netflix the sole streaming rights to Sony’s movies through 2022 and beyond after they have been released in theatres.
As a result, movies like Morbius, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, Uncharted, and others will only be available on Netflix after they have been released in theatres. It’s unclear whether Netflix will stream Morbius in the UK, given that this deal was exclusive to the US.

Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, two of the most well-known authors in the comic book industry, were responsible for developing Morbius into the tragic antihero he is today. Initially, he served as an adversary to characters such as Spider-Man and Blade.

Jared Harris (The Crown) plays Morbius’ mentor, Adria Arjona (True Detective) is the film’s love interest, and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious) tracks down the “living vampire.”
Gibson will wear a high-tech artificial arm as the comic book character Simon Stroud. He inked a three-film agreement. Jared Harris refuted rumors that he might play Spider-Man villain Doctor Octopus.
Harris told Variety his character isn’t the legendary villain. The fans’ imagination excites me. Nope. Michael Keaton’s appearance in the teaser trailer confirmed his involvement. He may reprise his Spider-Man role as Vulture.
Director Daniel Espinosa stated in August 2021 that Tom Hardy’s Venom would appear in this Marvel picture.
“Looking at the schedule and standing on set feels uncomfortable before the day starts,” Espinosa told Movieline. “When you walk through, it appears like a Swedish production, but when you look at the timetable, it’s cool and thrilling.”
Morbius’ Music?
After composing the scores for Espinosa’s previous films, Jon Ekstrand was set to write the score for Morbius by October 2019.
