Rob Marshall will be directing the next American musical fantasy movie, The Little Mermaid, which Jane Goldman and David Magee wrote.
It is a Walt Disney Pictures production and a live-action remake of the 1989 animated movie of the same name, partially based on the same-titled story by Hans Christian Andersen.
Alan Menken is scheduled to return as the composer for both the score and the songs. It is produced by Rob Marshall, John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the latter of whom co-wrote new songs for the remake as the lyricist.
Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy will appear in the movie alongside voice actors Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina.
The Little Mermaid Release Date: When is It Going to Be Released?
On May 26, 2023, The Little Mermaid will be released in theatres for the first time. After its initial run in select theatres, the film is expected to be available on Disney Plus (usually 45 days from its release).
As was said earlier, despite encountering a few obstacles, the production of the newest movie has been wrapped up. The last filming phase took place between January and July of 2021.
The expected launch date of May 2023 remains on track, but considering the past few years’ events, it is impossible to rule out the possibility of more schedule adjustments. But let’s hope not.

Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle will play Ariel. Jonah Hauer-King, who starred in The Last Photograph and A Dog’s Way Home, will play Prince Eric.
Ursula, a rare antagonistic role, will be played by Melissa McCarthy. King Triton, Ariel’s overprotective father, is played by Javier Bardem.
Grimsby, Prince Eric’s butler who discovers his wife, will be played by Jude Akuwudike. Prince Eric’s housekeeper will be played by Noma Dumezweni, who played Hermione in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Little Mermaid Release Date: What Will the Story Be About?
The plot will likely resemble the original with some updates for a modern audience, as with Disney’s other live-action remakes. In the 1989 film, mermaid princess Ariel is drawn to humans despite her father’s wishes.
With Triton’s blessing, Ariel marries and becomes human. She makes a contract with Ursula, the sea witch, to turn human when she falls in love with Prince Eric. Prince Eric murders Ursula when Ariel wins his love.

We don’t know how the new film will approach the story, but it should meet these requirements. Official synopsis: “A young mermaid trades her voice for human legs to explore the world above water.” We know the main stories are similar.
Remake changes are known. First, Perla and Karina are introduced. Their roles are likely to be significant because their identities were leaked.
Scuttle’s gender has been changed from male to female to increase representation, as Sebastian and Flounder are guys. We don’t know much more till closer to the publication date.
