Jo Koy portrays a poor actor, comedian, and single father who attends an Easter Sunday gathering with his loud and dysfunctional Filipino American family.

“Easter Sunday” is executive produced by Jo Koy, Jessica Gao, Jimmy O. Yang, Ken Cheng, Joe Meloche, Nick Reynolds, and Seth William Meier.

The film is produced by Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (“The Lego Movie”) and executive produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (“The Lego Movie”).

DreamWorks Pictures, in partnership with Universal Pictures and Amblin Partners, presents us with this film for our amusement.

The film will be directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who has previously directed “Super Troopers,” “Club Dread,” and “The Dukes of Hazzard.” The script was written by comedian and YouTuber Ken Cheng.

Production

On February 16, 2021, it was revealed that the comedy film Easter Sunday would be directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, and Jo Koy was attached to the star in the movie.

Eva Noblezada and Brandon Wardell both joined the cast in the month of April. In May, Lou Diamond Phillips was chosen to play a character that was based on him but was fabricated.

The production’s opening day of principal photography was May 3, 2021, in Vancouver. On May 29, Sharon Cuneta shared the news that she was set to star in the movie but had to drop out due to a false positive COVID-19 test.

Tia Carrere ended up getting the part that was initially intended for her. In July, Universal Pictures announced that Tiffany Haddish, Jimmy O. Yang, Lydia Gaston, Rodney To, and Jay Chandrasekhar would be a member of the cast.

The original plan was to release the movie on April 1, 2022, just in time for the Easter vacation. However, in February 2022, it was decided to push back the release date to August 5 of the same year.
