Development of Migos

Takeoff, his uncle Quavious, known professionally as Quavo, and his cousin Kiari, known professionally as Offset, created the group Migos in 2008.

Originally, they were known as the Polo Club. In 2011, the trio published its first full-length effort, a mixtape titled “Juug Season,” followed by another mixtape titled “No Label” in 2012.

Migos Make Their Mark

In 2013, with the release of the single “Versace,” Migos achieved true stardom. Drake’s remix of the song reached number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The tune was then included on the mixtape “Y.R.N.” by Migos.

The group then published “No Label 2,” a sequel to its second mixtape, which was downloaded over one hundred thousand times in its first week of availability. In 2014, the track “Fright Night” reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 69.

Migos released their debut studio album, “Yung Rich Nation,” in 2015. The album, which featured Young Thug and Chris Brown as guest artists, debuted at number three on the Top Rap Albums chart and produced the hit single “One Time.”

It reached its highest position on the Billboard 200 at number 17. In September of 2015, Migos released a new mixtape titled “Back to the Bando.”

Its first single, “Look at My Dab,” popularized the dancing move “dabbing” throughout the world. Also in 2015, Migos and Rich the Kid collaborated on the album “Streets on Lock 4”

Continued Achievement for Migos

“Bad and Boujee,” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, became Migos’ first number-one success in 2016; it was the lead single from the group’s second album, “Culture.”

The RIAA eventually certified the song as four times platinum. However, Takeoff was neither featured nor credited on the song because he was preoccupied during its production.

In January of 2017, “Culture” was ultimately released, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and selling approximately 131,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. In July, it was certified platinum.

Migos released “MotorSport,” the lead single from its third studio album “Culture II,” at the end of 2017. The song featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, two Trinidadian-American rappers, peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. “Stir Fry,” the second single, reached number eight.

In its first week of release, “Culture II” moved 199,000 album-equivalent units, making it the second album by Migos to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The release of “Culture III” was originally scheduled for 2020, but was postponed owing to the COVID epidemic.

When law enforcement detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the group’s vehicles, they conducted an investigation and ended up arresting the trio and 12 members of the entourage for controlled substance possession, as well as possession of firearms within a school safety zone and possession of firearms by convicted felons, the latter charge due to Offset’s prior criminal history and imprisonment.

Takeoff, Quavo, and six members of their entourage were released on bond two days after the incident, but Offset and six others remained in detention without bond.

Additional Legal Problems

In July of 2017, prior to takeoff on a flight from Atlanta to Des Moines, Iowa, Takeoff encountered more difficulties. After refusing to move his bag from the floor to the overhead compartment, he was ordered to leave the aircraft.

In 2020, Takeoff was listed as the offender in a legal action in which he was accused of sexual violence, assault, wrongful imprisonment, and more.

The lawsuit was brought by a female victim who accused Takeoff of committing these acts at a Los Angeles house party.

Due to insufficient supporting evidence, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office declared in 2021 that it will not be pressing criminal charges against Takeoff.
