Throwback Movies That We All Know and Love
A whole list of rankable throwback movies would be long! There certainly are so many older movies that we all know and love, and in some cases, they are much better than the modern-day films that appear on Netflix and other streaming services! The best way to enjoy any type of movie is to ensure that you are watching it on the big screen.
Make sure to ditch the small laptop screen for these types of films, and upgrade to watching these classics on a large TV (even better if it is wall-mounted!). Click here for TV wall mounting facilities. Anyway, without further ado, let’s jump into the throwback movies that we all know and love, we bet that you are all waiting to find out!
Mrs. Doubtfire
One of Robin Williams’ most iconic roles has unarguably got to be Mrs. Doubtfire. When Daniel (portrayed by Williams) loses custody of his kids, he uses creativity and his vocal talents to impersonate a nanny figure to see and look after them. As his ex-wife hires him as “Mrs. Doubtfire”, Daniel begins to bond with his kids more and more. However, faces complications when he realises that this may stop him from interacting with them as their dad. If you are looking for a fun-filled, and ultra-hilarious family movie, be sure to check out this 1993 throwback.
Dirty Dancing
After being released in 1987, this classic still definitely lives on as one of the main throwback movies that is still a present-day hit. The film embarks on a journey of dancing and romance as Baby (played by Jennifer Grey) visits a summer resort with her family and ends up becoming the dance partner of Johnny (played by the late Patrick Swayze) following a mishap with his usual partner. With a significantly great soundtrack, iconic actors (others include Jerry Orbach, Kelly Bishop, Wayne Knight, and Cynthia Rhodes), and a romanticised storyline, you will be sure to be engrossed in your screen and singing along to this much-loved film, especially when the final scene arrives!
Grease
When teens Sandy and Danny meet during the summer, they prepare to wave goodbye to their summer romance as Sandy embarks on her journey back home to Australia. However, a change of plans could change the dynamics of everything! Unexpectedly, Sandy enrols in Danny’s high school and realises that he certainly isn’t the same guy she had met over the summer. With interference from the “Pink Ladies” and the “T-Birds”, will their love or even friendship be able to withstand their different personalities and backgrounds, or will love work out in the end eventually? Tune into this 1970s favourite to find out!
Mean Girls
Now moving on a few years to the 2000s, we cannot forget about the most iconic chick flick to date, Mean Girls. Centering around the typical American high school setting, Mean Girls covers every dynamic of high school life for a teenage girl and the scenes are so relatable! Not to mention, the quotes within this film will certainly go down in history. The stars of the film, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Tina Fey, and many others truly have made this film the masterpiece it has turned out to be. Be sure to check it out today, and when doing so, make sure that you have a big bowl of popcorn at the ready as the drama is intense.
The Exorcist
This throwback movie list would certainly not be complete without the feature of a horror film! If you are looking for an intense thriller (some may even say comedy!) then The Exorcist (1973) is your go-too. Revolving around a young girl, Regan, and a demon that enters her body, the exorcist is full of several jumpy moments, shall we say. Don’t get us wrong, some scenes are severely disturbing (which is highlighted even more since it is an older movie), but that’s all part of horror, right?
Forrest Gump
Tom Hanks stars in one of his most credible films as Forrest Gump, a young man with a high IQ, many talents, and a big heart. The film follows his hardships as well as achievements as it documents his life through the years and highlights his success. However, the main message of this throwback movie is that love always wins in the end as he finds his way back to his childhood sweetheart. This 1994 favourite is iconic in the cinematic world and will be sure to bring a tear to your eye. Alongside the success of the film, we also gained a great American seafood restaurant chain. Where else did you think the name “Bubba Gump Shrimp Company” came from!?
Finding Nemo
Although it is not a major throwback, Finding Nemo had to make the list! If you haven’t seen this children’s Disney classic then, uhm, where have you been? When young clownfish, Nemo, is captured by scuba divers, it is his overprotective dad’s mission to travel across the deep blue sea to rescue him and bring him home. However, it’s not quite as simple as one may think. Along the way, Marlin runs into a variety of diverse sea creatures, and to be honest, they make the full film! Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love Dory? Check out this 2003 blockbuster today, the nostalgia will be sure to rush back!
