Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser have decided to divorce after eight years of marriage. Kartheiser filed for divorce from the Gilmore Girls actress on August 10 at the Putnam County Supreme Court in New York, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly.
One year after Kartheiser’s engagement, the couple married quietly in 2014. The two actors first met on the Mad Men set, where their characters were involved in an on-screen romance.
But they waited until the shoot was over before beginning a real-life relationship. “I’m a fortunate man,” Kartheiser told Us Weekly after they got engaged. At that point, I respond, “I mean, my fiancée!” I keep saying, girlfriend.
A source told the outlet at the time of the couple’s small, private wedding in Ojai, California, that it was a small and intimate family affair. They wished for something peaceful and lovely. Ojai was the ideal setting.
His relatives flew in from the East Coast. Later, Bledel told Nylon that she was planning her wedding while filming Jenny’s Wedding, in which she plays a lesbian preparing to marry into a traditional family.
“It was kind of surreal to think about how much these characters have to go through just to get to that point,” she said when reenacting the wedding scenes.

In 2015, the two celebrities welcomed their first child together, a son. They were able to keep the birth of their son completely hidden until co-star Scott Patterson of Gilmore Girls: A Day in the Life with Alexis Bledel accidentally revealed the news.
Patterson, 63, told Glamour in May 2016 about his longtime friend, “She’s blossomed as a woman, and now she’s a proud new mother, married, and happy.”
My son is about a year and a half older than her young son, so we’re comparing notes. I’m showing her pictures, videos, and what to expect. We’re just having a good time together.
Bledel announced earlier this year that she would leave The Handmaid’s Tale after four seasons. In a statement to Variety in May, she said, “I am forever grateful to Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast, and crew for their support.”
