John McAfee’s ex-girlfriend claims he “faked death and is alive in Texas”
According to John McAfee’s ex-girlfriend, the cyber security pioneer staged his death in a Spanish jail last year and now lives undercover in Texas.
Samantha Herrera, who lived with McAfee in Belize in 2012, made the allegations in a new documentary about his final years.
Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee, a new Netflix documentary, follows the contentious antivirus tycoon as he flees Belize after being identified as a person of interest in the death of his neighbor Gregory Faull.
It follows him as he flees US authorities again in 2019, this time through the Caribbean, before arriving in Europe, where he is apprehended at a Spanish airport. He died less than eight months after allegedly committing suicide in his cell.
“Following his death, I received a phone call from Texas. I paid off people to pretend that I’m dead, but I’m not dead.” Ms. Herrera claimed in her statement that McAfee asked her to flee with him and said, “It’s me, John.
McAfee was fighting extradition to the United States and faced tax evasion and fraud charges at his death.
McAfee told The Independent in his final interview before his death that he had no desire to return to the United States and that there was “zero chance” Spain would extradite him.
McAfee’s widow, Janice McAfee, reaffirmed Wednesday why Texas would be an unlikely hiding place. “Oh, how I wish this were true,” she tweeted. I’m reasonably sure that if John were still alive, he wouldn’t be skulking around Texas.
“Texas is beautiful, to be sure, but given that he was imprisoned in Spain due to false accusations made by the IRS, I doubt John would choose to hide out in America. That would be absurd.
Ms. McAfee disputes the suicide verdict, claiming that the note discovered on his body was a draught of a tweet.
In May, she stated, “too many things have happened that just don’t add up.” “They rushed the story of a suicide, but they refuse to release his body or the autopsy report. It makes no sense unless they have something to conceal.”
Ms. McAfee has started an online petition to have his body released from a Spanish morgue.

Mcafee’s Legal Issues
In connection with the cryptocurrency charges, the founder of the antivirus software company was accused by prosecutors of participating in a pump-and-dump scheme with the intent to defraud cryptocurrency investors.
McAfee and his group allegedly used the businessman’s Twitter account to spread the word about the scam. As a result, the Department of Justice claimed that McAfee had fraudulently earned more than $2 million in illegal profits.
It is important to remember that before his death, McAfee stated in several tweets that he would not commit suicide and that this would not be the cause of his death.
Mcafee’s Body Remains Unclaimed
The death of McAfee was shrouded in secrecy, and his body remained in a Spanish morgue as late as June 2022, even after his family had filed a lawsuit demanding that additional inquiries be conducted into his death. A judge has not yet decided on this matter.
The authorities in Spain have told the public that it is highly unusual for identified bodies to remain unclaimed by their families for an extended period.
According to the reports, Herrera and McAfee started dating when she was 18 years old; however, after their neighbor died under mysterious circumstances in 2012, they decided to leave San Pedro.
McAfee’s life as a fugitive is the subject of a new documentary that will premiere on Netflix on August 24.
