Tommy Lee has once again made himself completely available to the internet, but this time on his terms.
Earlier this month, the Mötley Crüe drummer shared a full-frontal naked photo of himself on Facebook and Instagram. “Ooooopppss,” he captioned the photo. Lee later addressed the nude selfie during a concert on Sunday.
Lee’s image, in which she was seen sitting on the edge of a bathtub in her undies, has since been removed from both social media sites. It’s unclear whether he or the social media platforms removed the image.
While the image was online, Lee’s wife, Brittany Furlan, commented, “OH MY GOD.”
According to Newsweek, the rock star’s nude photo was online for nearly four hours, prompting complaints about a double standard with Meta-owned social media platforms’ community standards.
During the Performance, Tommy Lee Addresses the Naked Photo
Lee spoke openly about posting the pornographic photo of himself online at a Mötley Crüe concert in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday.
When the tour stopped for a few weeks, Lee told the crowd, “I went on an (expletive) bender, bro.” After getting naked and using an expletive, I posted pictures of my (penis).
Lee encouraged the male concertgoers to expose themselves by following in his footsteps. He told the boys to get their (expletive) out. “Remove your (expletive) garbage. Let us go.”
Community Guidelines for Instagram and Facebook Censorship Discussion
Instagram’s community guidelines prohibit content depicting “sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks.”
According to the community guidelines, “we understand there are times when people may want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but we don’t allow nudity on Instagram for various reasons.”
Images of female nipples in “breastfeeding, birth giving and after-birth moments, health-related situations,” as well as nudity in protest photos and nudity in artwork, are now permitted on Instagram.

On Twitter, there was outrage over how long it took to remove Lee’s nude photo and questions about why it took so long.
“Didn’t want to wake up to a picture of Tommy Lee’s (expletive),” user @lovefromloz commented. Among their community guidelines, @instagram has the most apparent double standard.”
The commenter @UnbrokenFate mentioned how Britney Spears’ mental stability was questioned, while Lee’s photo received praise.
“So you guys love it when Tommy Lee posts an Instagram photo of himself literally with his entire (expletive) out, but Britney posts nude photos of herself (WHILE STILL COVERING HERSELF), and you think she’s insane?” Make some sense of it. The apparent double standard, “examine the tweet.

On Twitter, @jlalibs called Lee’s image a publicity stunt and discussed the unfair treatment of sex workers on social media.
“That image is still up four hours later were sex workers who don’t even post nudity get shadow banned for just living,” wrote @jlalibs, referring to Tommy Lee, who has 1.4 million followers on Instagram.
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s Prior Nudity Scandal
This isn’t the first time Lee’s naked photo has gone viral.
In 1996, a personal sex tape containing Lee and his ex-wife, “Baywatch” actress Pamela Anderson, was stolen and made public.
According to a 2014 Rolling Stone article, electrician Rand Gauthier stole the tape from the couple’s Malibu home after being fired from a renovation project despite owing his clients $20,000 that they refused to pay.
According to Rolling Stone, the two engaged in protracted legal battles before reaching an agreement in December 1997 with the Internet Entertainment Group, which had posted the tape online.
After a turbulent marriage, the couple, who had two children, divorced in 1998.
The couple’s emotional toll due to the viral sensation is covered in the Hulu limited series “Pam and Tommy.”
The show received ten Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Limited Series and three for the performances of Lily James as Anderson, Sebastian Stan as Lee, and Seth Rogan as Gauthier.
