Britney Spears’ first brand-new song since the glory days is a duet with Elton John. “Hold Me Closer” is a modern version of John’s classic song “Tiny Dancer,” released in 1971. Andrew Watt produced this song. The video can be found in the embed below.
The song’s release date was announced via a post on John’s Instagram account that included a split image of Spears and himself when they were younger (Britney in a frilly pink dress, Elton seated at a piano).
The Instagram post by Spears was in response to the one by John. “You can bet your bottom dollar that THIS collaboration, bringing your brilliant hands of play together, will make my year,” she said. (You can bet your bottom dollar that THIS collaboration, bringing together your luminous hands of play, will be a smashing success.)
It’s fantastic that you have a background vocalist in your music. Elton John, Dame, I was successful because of your brilliant, imaginative, and illustrious mind! I’m grateful you asked me to join you in singing this beautiful song, and I appreciate the thought that went into your invitation.
Spears’ most successful album to date was “Glory.” Spears released a few singles in 2020 in support of her album Glory, which was released in 2016, but she did not tour “Hold Me Closer” is her first studio appearance since breaking free from her father, James “Jamie Spears,” conservatorship in 2008.
The New York Times article “Framing Britney Spears” sparked a wave of documentaries about the conflict, and both The New York Times and The New Yorker extensively covered it.
Their journalistic efforts, combined with Spears’ devoted fan base, resulted in a highly publicized court case that resulted in a judge in Los Angeles granting Spears control over her life by the end of 2021.
Then came the marriage in June of this year, followed by a $15 million book deal with Simon & Schuster for a “tell-all memoir.” She got married to actor Sam Asghari. She’d just had the heartbreaking experience of burying her “miracle baby” with Asghari.
