Charlbi Dean, Cannes Film Festival’s Breakout Star in 2022, Passes Away at Age 32!
The actor and model had a recurring part on the CW show “Black Lightning,” which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and “Triangle of Sadness,” in which he starred.
Charlbi Dean, a South African actor and model who was 32 years old when he passed away, was known for his breakthrough performance in “Triangle of Sadness,” the film that took home the top prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
According to statements made by her representatives on Tuesday, Dean passed away on Monday in a hospital in the city of New York after an unexpected and abrupt illness.
In addition, Dean played the assassin Syonide in the DC Comics television series “Black Lightning,” which was broadcast on the CW from 2018 to 2021. “Black Lightning” was based on the comic books published by DC Comics.
She was given the name Charlbi Dean Kriek in Cape Town, which is also where she spent her childhood.
Dean began his career as a model when he was still a child. In the decades that followed, he was a regular fixture on fashion runways and on the covers of magazines.
In 2009, she was in an automobile accident that was very nearly fatal. Her first role was in the film “Spud,” which was released in 2010, and it was an adaptation of a well-known South African novel about a boys’ boarding school. Dean told the Associated Press at the festival before the film was announced as the winner of the award, “For me, I’m like, I’ve already won. I have already arrived in Cannes with the film. That defies all logic and reason. At this stage in my life, anything that happens is just icing on the cake for me, you know?”

Dean was born in Cape Town on February 5, 1990, to Joanne and Johan Kriek. At the age of six, she began modeling for commercials and catalogs. She was homeschooled after leaving high school at age 14 and dropping out. She received training at Waterfront Theatre School for acting.
Dean was on the cover of Vogue and in campaigns for Gucci, United Colors of Benetton, and Ralph Lauren while working for the multinational Guess label.
